Summertime Fun (Candace’s Corner)

Although we are not technically into “summer” yet it is sure feeling like it lately. The one thing I love about the island and Victoria is that we have such beautiful weather. I am getting so excited for summer and the many fun events that take place during the summer season! It’s time to talk about what to do or what to mark on your calendars for the next three months.

To kick things off, I would write in on the calendar the 2019 Victoria Indigenous Cultural Festival! It’s taking place from June 21 – 23 at the Royal BC Museum and admission is Free! This event will give you access to be apart and experience some of the local First Nations food and culture. There will be performances, carvings, BBQ salmon burgers, and beautiful handcrafted jewelry.

Another fun one that you won’t want to miss is the “Canada Day Penny Carnival,” also happening at the museum. It’s taking place from July 1 – 3 from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Not to worry if you don’t have any pennies laying around as they have you covered. Just show up for the carnival fun! The kinds of games you can expect will be the classic bean bag toss and egg & spoon race among others… and if you can stick it out in the busy crowds and all of the excitement of downtown Victoria on Canada Day there is always an amazing fireworks display down at the Inner Harbour. I definitely want to check both of these out with my kiddos. 😀

Let’s not forget Jazz Fest that happens every year in Victoria Let music fill the air and the sunshine shine throughout the capital of BC as this is the longest multi-day professional music festival to come to Vancouver Island! It runs for 10 days and it takes place from June 21 – June 30. Canadian & International musicians will be showcased. You definitely don’t want to miss this.

On this musical note, you will want to plan on attending “Symphony Splash!” I caught the tail end of it last year and I wish I had gone for the whole day! There are no words to describe how incredible the music was and they put on a very beautiful fireworks display during the finale! This year it will take place on August 4. More details to be released closer to the date.

Last but not least is the Oak Bay Tea Party. Who doesn’t love cotton candy, amusement rides, games, and memories to last a lifetime? This year the Oak Bay Tea Party takes place May 31 (4 PM – 9 PM), June 1 (7 AM – 9 PM), and June 2 (7 AM – 7 PM). Please note that wristbands will only be sold on the Friday and Saturday. Sunday is ticket sales only!

I hope you are able to check out some of the upcoming Summertime Fun that will be happening around our beautiful city! 😀

Until next time…
