Microsoft Sway is the Office 365 application that makes it easy to create and share interactive materials, personal stories, presentations and more.

With multimedia and responsive content, Sway enables the inclusion of diverse content such as images and texts, YouTube videos, tweets, Facebook posts, OneDrive files, etc. Sway has several layout options, all of which look very professional.

Sway focuses on content production, differentiating it from PowerPoint by not requiring the user to dedicate himself to formatting.

The user can create a report, a presentation, a blog, a resume, an advertisement, a newsletter, a personal story, a photo album or a visual travel report. There are virtually no limits to what you can creatively express with Sway.

According to Microsoft, the goal of Microsoft Sway is to convey concepts quickly, easily and clearly. Tutorials, topic presentations and interactive reports are the solutions it delivers. Your presentations are supported in the cloud and can be easily shared or embedded in websites.

Sway’s interface is story-based, where users add a series of cards or slides. These cards are filled with content, with different cards for different types of content. They can also be grouped into sections.

Information intended to be the user’s narrative can be easily added, removed, edited or reordered.

Another advantage of this software is that it does not require an installation to work on desktops or laptops. Although the application exists for different operating systems, Sway is functional on its website.

Course Content

Automaticity

Sway automates parts of the creative process, empowering you to create with ease.

The user can select an overall theme of a Sway, and some additional tweaks can be made. The built-in design engine chooses how your card will look.

Minimizing the number of tweaks keeps the application simple and optimized for creating presentations quickly.

The algorithm behind Microsoft Sway’s design makes presentations look coherent and optimizes the design for viewing on different devices.

Content Creation

Any media that needs to be embedded has to be loaded into the program.

Content can be loaded directly from a variety of sources.

This helps simplify the creation process and minimizes the time spent on production. Sources include YouTube, Facebook and Flickr, for example, as well as other platforms such as Office itself (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other programs.

This means that a Sway presentation can be drafted in Word, or a PowerPoint presentation can be converted into a Sway story, with headers, text and media automatically divided into letters and sections.

Microsoft Sway can also be shared for co-authoring and collaboration.

Forms of Presentation

The user chooses whether the Sway should be viewed as scrolling vertically, horizontally, or in a presentation mode.

This provides flexibility in how the presentation will be done, how it will be incorporated into a website, or how the presentation tool will be demonstrated.

Once a Sway is completed, you can play it in your desired view and share it.

Presentations can be shared via the public Google Docs gallery, for example, via social media, as a link, or as an embeddable piece of media.

One of the main attractions of Sway today is its ability to be incorporated into other platforms.

How to use Sway on distance learning platforms

Teachers, or tutors, can create lesson plans using Sway with all the lesson-related resources organized.

Online resources, such as notes, presentations, and media, are created in the cloud.

Such aspects can then be added and removed from the plan, providing links to external resources, references and further insights.

So, the teacher can share these lessons within their classes. This is directly linked to the methodology used by distance learning.
